Your skincare, phase by phase
Before your visit
Two weeks before
- Start your Alastin system morning and evening in the prep order above.
- If you have pigment or melasma, use the NOON TXA Brightening Complex for the full two weeks.
- Start Skinade daily and continue through your recovery.
- For the last seven days, moisturize morning and evening and drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
- Avoid the sun. Outdoors, wear a hat and a zinc oxide sunscreen, SPF 30 or higher.
- Using a higher strength retinol from another brand, a prescription retinoid such as tretinoin, or any acids or exfoliants? Tell your provider and stop them 5 days before.
- Tell us if you have ever had a cold sore. If you are prescribed an antiviral, take it exactly as directed.
The day of
- Arrive with a clean face: no makeup, lotion, sunscreen, hairspray, self tanner or ointment.
- Wear comfortable clothing that does not pull over your head.
- We apply numbing cream in the office before treatment. At Levels 3 and 4, your VitaminDrip IV runs while the numbing takes effect.
- You and our team wear protective eyewear, and a smoke evacuator keeps the air clear.
The night of
- Wash your hands with soap and water before you touch your face, every time.
- Levels 3 and 4: start your soaks tonight. Mix your first bottle when you get home and follow the soak steps below. Level 2: cool saline gauze for 5 to 10 minutes, as often as feels good. No ice for 72 hours.
- Protect it. Mist Magic Molecule and let it dry, then a few drops of Regenerating Skin Nectar and a layer of EltaMD Laser Balm.
- Sleep elevated on two or three pillows and a fresh pillowcase, with no pets in your bed.
- Keep it simple: no alcohol, spicy food or hot drinks until day 2. Tylenol as directed on the package.
Your astringent soak
Three soaks a day. The bottle stays capped and you only squeeze from the nozzle, so it stays clean in the refrigerator all day.
| Level | How long you soak | When to start sunscreen |
|---|---|---|
| Level 2 | No astringent soaks; cool saline gauze for comfort if needed | Around day 3 to 4 |
| Level 3 | Usually days 1 to 3 | Around day 4 to 5 |
| Level 4 | Up to day 5, since Laser Coring makes ooze last a little longer | Around day 5 to 7 |
Clean hands, clean skin
- Wash your hands with soap and water before you touch your face, handle gauze, mix your soak or apply any product. Clean hands mean no gloves needed.
- Mist Magic Molecule after cleansing, after every soak and anytime your skin feels warm or itchy. It is hypochlorous acid, the same gentle antimicrobial your own white blood cells make, so it keeps skin clean without stinging. Close your eyes while you mist and let it air dry.
- Pat dry with a Clean Towel after every wash, then toss it. Bathroom hand towels are one of the biggest sources of bacteria.
- No pets in your bed, and keep them away from your face, until your skin stops oozing and your soaks are done.
- Fresh pillowcase every night during that same stretch.
Healing, day by day
What you will see: redness, swelling (often more around the eyes), and a clear to yellowish ooze. The ooze is normal healing fluid, but if it builds up it can slow healing, which is why we soak.
What to do: wash gently with your Cetaphil using only your fingertips and pat dry with a Clean Towel. Start your soaks tonight if you have not already, 3 times a day. After every soak, mist Magic Molecule, then apply Regenerating Skin Nectar and Laser Balm. No sunscreen today. Sleep elevated again tonight.
What you will see: redness and swelling at their peak, then starting to settle. You may see a fine grid pattern and light crusting.
What to do: keep the same routine of cleanse, soak, Nectar and Laser Balm, 3 times a day. Do not pick or rub. Use a fresh pillowcase every night and a new Clean Towel every wash, and keep pets out of your bed and away from your face.
What you will see: skin is still red, but new skin has formed and the ooze is much less.
What to do: Level 3 can usually stop soaking. Level 4 and Laser Coring areas may need a soak once or twice a day for another day or so, only where you still see ooze. Keep layering Nectar under your Laser Balm whenever your skin feels dry or tight.
What you will see: redness begins to fade and the grid pattern softens. Once your skin no longer oozes and feels smooth, it has resurfaced.
What to do: stop soaks unless an area is still oozing. Switch to your full Alastin routine with NOON DeFlame, and finish each morning with your EltaMD green tinted sunscreen and a hat outdoors. Makeup is fine once you have resurfaced, with new products or freshly cleaned brushes.
What you will see: a soft pink flush that keeps fading over the coming weeks, and smoother, brighter skin.
What to do: continue your Alastin routine, sunscreen and Skinade. Do not restart retinol or acids until we clear you at your check in.
Collagen keeps building for 3 to 6 months, so your results continue to improve. Additional treatments, if planned, are spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart.
