Beyond CO2: Why We Brought UltraClear Cold Fiber Laser Resurfacing to SKYN

Welcome to the SKYN Journal, a space where we will share the science, the thinking, and the care behind everything we do at SKYN Aesthetics & Wellness. It feels fitting that our very first post celebrates something we have been eager to share with you: UltraClear laser resurfacing has arrived at SKYN.

CO2 earned its reputation, and its downtime

For decades, CO2 has been called the gold standard of laser resurfacing, and honestly, it earned that title. It creates real, visible change in wrinkles, texture, scarring, and sun damage. But anyone who has been through a CO2 treatment knows the other side of the story.

CO2 energy is absorbed by the water in your skin, but it also spreads a significant amount of heat into the surrounding tissue. That heat is part of how it works, and it is also why recovery can be long and uncomfortable, with extended redness and a greater risk of pigment changes, particularly for deeper skin tones. CO2 gets its results by taking a great deal from the skin. We wanted a way to achieve remarkable results while asking your skin to give up far less.

Comparison of CO2 laser heat spread versus UltraClear 2910 nm cold fiber laser precision

Meet UltraClear, the cold fiber laser

UltraClear by Acclaro Medical is the world's first 2910 nm cold ablative fiber laser, designed to deliver controlled tissue ablation while minimizing collateral thermal damage. That wavelength is the heart of it. At 2910 nm, the laser sits right at the point where water absorbs light most intensely, so the energy goes into precisely vaporizing the targeted tissue instead of radiating outward as heat.

UltraClear also works fractionally, delivering its energy in tiny, precise columns while leaving intact skin around each one. That surrounding healthy tissue becomes a reservoir for repair, which is a big reason healing is typically faster and more comfortable than with traditional resurfacing. Because the depth and intensity of each pulse can be customized, one platform allows us to treat everything from a gentle glow refresh to deep corrective resurfacing, and it is designed to be safe across all skin types.

Laser Coring, the treatment we are most excited about

This is where UltraClear truly sets itself apart. Laser Coring uses the fiber laser to create precise micro channels that reach deep into the dermis, gently removing tiny cores of tissue. As the skin heals, those channels close and contract, stimulating new collagen and visibly tightening the skin. It combines tissue coring and laser resurfacing in a single treatment of about 30 minutes, without scalpels or sutures.

Laser Coring is designed for concerns that once felt out of reach without surgery: deep wrinkles, deep scarring, and the softening and laxity that come with time and gravity. The science behind it is encouraging, too. A histology study from Houston Methodist found that UltraClear Laser Coring reached the mid and deep dermis safely, with no scarring or lasting redness among the treated subjects.

What this means for your healing

Less heat and more preserved tissue translate into an experience that feels remarkably different from what most people expect from an ablative laser. Many patients find UltraClear comfortable, and downtime is typically shorter and easier to manage than with CO2. Your personal recovery will depend on the depth and type of treatment we design together, and we will walk you through exactly what to expect, along with a tailored skincare plan to support your results before and after.

Expertise behind every pulse

A laser is only as good as the hands guiding it. Our practitioners bring deep, advanced training in laser science, skin anatomy, and corrective skin treatment, and our team is actively involved in educating and training providers across the country. Every UltraClear treatment at SKYN begins with a thorough consultation, because the right settings, depth, and treatment plan are different for every face. Precision and safety are never an afterthought here. They are the foundation.
